MORGANTOWN – The local United Way is kicking off its campaign in a big way. Monday, Sept. 9, has been dubbed United Way Day, and many activities, both online and in the community, are in the works.
In the morning, United Way employees and volunteers will try to drum up some support for the organization by standing on busy corners in the community with signs asking for people to honk in support.
In the afternoon, the 2020 Campaign Chairs (Bankers United), representatives from several companies, and United Way staff and board members will gather at the Pines Country Club where the 12 Pacesetters will reveal how much they’ve already raised toward the 2020 Campaign goal. The event is sponsored by Clear Mountain Bank. This year’s overall goal is set at $1,345,000. Each year, the Pacesetters run early campaigns to kickstart fundraising for the United Way.
From 3-4 p.m. in Kingwood, the public is invited to attend the United Way Day Kickoff in Kingwood on the front lawn at the Preston County Inn. There will be free refreshments and games, and folks will be able to learn more about this year’s campaign.
Throughout United Way Day, people are encouraged to wear their Live United shirts if they have them and post about the organization and campaign on social media using the hashtags #InvestinYourCommunity and #LIVEUNITED.
People who respond that they are “going” to the Facebook event and then create a post describing how they Live United and invest in the community will be entered to win a $50 gift card. The United Way Day event page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/2548488701876132/.
