On Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties held its Community Leaders' Launch via Zoom. The event was formerly known as the Community Leaders' Breakfast and is normally held at Mon Health Medical Center, which sponsors the event. However, due to the pandemic, the decision was made to hold the launch virtually.
The highlight of the event was Dr. Clay Marsh, West Virginia coronavirus czar, who talked about the virus itself and how it spreads, the use of masks, social distancing measures, and the return of school and football.
David Goldberg, CEO and president of Mon Health System, kicked off the event with a special welcome. Brandi Helms, CEO of the local United Way, and Macall Speaker, director of development for the local United Way, discussed the upcoming 2021 campaign and introduced the theme of Now, More Than Ever.
Serving as the campaign chairs for this year are former WVU President David Hardesty and his wife, Susan, who founded the WVU Parents Club. They took a few minutes to talk about the campaign, as well as introduce Marsh.
Finally, Amanda Posey, marketing and communications director at the local United Way, gave a sneak peek to attendees of the new campaign materials, including the PSA featuring the Hardestys and the 2021 campaign video.
